The Freedom Riders were on a Greyhound bus going from Cunningham, Georgia to Birmingham, Georgia. The bus was surrounded by mobs for about 4 miles until a tire went flat, the mobs then started breaking windows with various objects. Eventually, the mob threw a bomb on to the bus, many people were injured. The riders stated that they were simply upholding the law.
Did law enforcement attempt to hold the mobs back or did they allow them to proceed?

The Freedom riders group was going from Georgia to Birmingham. The bus was followed by mobs for a long stretch of time. They attacked the bus violently and broke objects on the bus.They then ended up throwing a bomb on the bus and injured many people.

They traveled around in a greyhound bus until reaching Anniston, Alabama they were surrounded by a mob, The mob followed the bus until it blew a tire The mob then started breaking the windows and finally threw a bomb in the bus. Many people inside the bus were injured.
